i've wanted to post this for sooo long.
this is one of two designs i was able to do for Jhevon Paris.

it's clearly a play on the Chanel logo, but i had a ton of fun putting this together
and i was so excited to see the final printed product
(glossy gold foil with white-tinted discharge print) - so it be so ballin'

I've been so, so, so busy.

Have a few new The Trews designs under my belt for their new tour.
Third Estate was also the Official Merch sponsor for Halifax Pop Explosion.

The bossman and I took a lil' plane to the east coast and partied our hearts out
with some of our awesome clients and contacts.

The very, very, VERY good people at HPX hooked me up with a delegate pass which was just too much fun.
Got to dance and be a part of so many awesome acts.

Hey everyone.
Yeah, I've been pretty busy.
I do have new art, though not ready to post yet.

The owl shirts have been printed,
The mural has begun (Empyr, Globe, Toby, Pi314, Smug, Hungr)
Working on a digital illustration of Classified.

...the old Classified, not the one from his Sony album. (sorry, man)

And I've been reading tons and kicking my butt though all sorts of exciting cardio and weight-training workouts.

Life is pretty good, busy but good.

It's been a while since I've sat and drawn.
And now its Friday... damn.

This girl's just got about a billion things to do.

PS. If you want your heart and soul absolutely ripped in two with sadness, sorrow and the beauty of meaningful writing, check out "Sold" it's light on pages (263) but heavy on my mind.
Without getting too much into too much, it's about a young 13 year old Nepali girl who is sold into prostitution by her asshat of a stepfather with her mother thinking she would be a maid in a big, rich city.
It's written beautifully, short and poignant, but ... oh man, i don't know. it just rips you up.
Read it, if not for me, than for all the Nepali girls who are sold into sordid prostitution houses; to whom the book was dedicated.

What also hurts is the fact it's so current... digital cameras, david beckham jerseys and small luxuries that we think nothing of today slip briefly into her world and confound her.

since it's so close to completion i was thinking about waiting until i had the finished product to post. but alas, life is busy in the the shop and since it's not on the press this very second, i'll post the last in-progess flick i have.
i was skeptical about the ring/claws/can, and being able to pull them off alright, but now i feel they're my favorite elements of the drawing... actually the ring still makes me teehee a little bit, but that could be because it's 1:56 in the morning.

(forgive the ugly watermark)

it's going to be extremely limited edition.
for no reason i guess except to save on extra shirts at the shop.
but anyways, for the writers that did request a shirt, you can find your name hidden somewhere in the drawing
(not visible on the posted flick, so you'll still have something to search for after you get the shirt).

so far about 5+ hours in the making.
what started out as an attempt to speedpaint, got me all obsessive
and interested in doing something more intense.
this is still just the beginning as she's looking a little plastic, but i hope to have the finished up by the end of the weekend.

finicky kids might notice the shading (hopefully) looks a little better than previous tablet illustration attempts.
that's because i'm flexing my new (used) wacom intuos 3 6x11 that i got off craigslist for such a good price i couldn't pass it up, even thought it means eating ramen & wish sandwiches until next pay.

so yeah, she's been kicking my ass all day, but i think i like it.

I should really post more.
Anyway, Empyr and I have been busy, and while the owl shirt is still a go, I have to be patient because poor lil' Empyr did something serious to his ankle (rolled, twisted... SOMETHING requiring crutches), so the art is on hold until he can show me what's up with the printing process start-to-finish.
The weekend was good, hopefully some of you got out to NXNE,
I found my work is not only good with supplying me with dirtcheap wholesale American Apparel stuff, but also for getting me into music-related events as well, the kinds with the good bands, low hype (read: minimal attention-craving trendwhores) and free beers.
My favorite act hands-down was this quiet-seeming dude who played a TERRIBLE timeslot at Wrongbar last Thursday.
Srsly, the music was dope, but how can you expect people to really get out on the dance floor at 8pm with light still streaming in the windows?... Yea.
Anyway, he goes by Peter Project and it's oldschool.

In other project-related news, I'm working on a shirt design for the ever-fun and ever-fresh JR Mint
I can't give it all away, but lets say there's a 'green' theme that i'll let yer imagination run with.
So far it's a pretty simple one colour, but here's a sample of one of the elements.

So, it's been a little while.
It's not that I haven't been doing stuff,
I just haven't been posting it.

To tide you over, I'm including the in-progress sketch of my newest shirt design. This one is a Pi314 original, just for my own fun, not related to work.

Anyway, it's an owl (because Empyr is really into 'em),
and I've steezed it out a bit, but i'm trying to avoid going overboard on this one.

Empyr said he'd work with me in the production aspect of the shirts next week. So yes, I'm excited.

Aside from the awesome people, secret sessions in the stairwell, and my emo comic, the best thing that happened was hands-down when the owner of the shop stuck
Peter Bagge's 'The Bradleys' into Empyrs' and my hot little mitts and said something along the lines of; "I think you will really enjoy this". After that and all 6 Hate comics later; he couldn't have been more right.

This was done a few months ago, however it's by far the most ambitious photoshop illustration I have to this date attempted, so I thought it deserved a spot on the blog.
I was really into this style when I was doing it, but I've dropped off in favor of brushes and black inks again.

In the real world, I have an amazing job at
a lil' screen printing shop in Toronto.
A lot of the projects are what you would expect; proofing, vectorizing, separating colours, making films, etc...
but every so often a neat lil' project slips in where I actually get to design a shirt for a band.
